ATC SCM 7
ATC - SCM 7

From the very first moment, the SCM 7 surprises with a lot of information that it provides across the entire band. Despite the surprisingly low efficiency of 84 dB and the closed housing design, it produces a lot of information and fantastic differentiated bass. The listening experience of well-made music recordings is incredibly natural and coherent. The harmony and quintessence of sounds emanating from ATC surprises and enchants the listener. The speed of transmission and a wide stereo image with lots of details that we hear from these small monitors really amazes. The sounds detach from the speakers (there is no impression of being muffled by a blanket), there is something that makes an incredibly natural impression, because there is simply nothing missing in the sound. The bass does not come to the fore, it is what it should be fast with lots of details and, above all, not colored or drawn in any frequency range.

These speakers simply sound the way the music wants them to, and should be an example of good sound for little money. It is hard to find any flaws in the loudspeakers, and certainly not at this price. Perhaps there is a lack of power, because turning the volume knob too much reduces the amount of compression we hear. No wonder, because we do not expect incredibly great power from a 125mm woofer as from a subwoofer. The quality of bass color reproduction that they serve SCM 7 is fantastic and immaculately clean despite the fact that they do not attack with bass, they do not lack this range because quality combined with speed and lots of information gives the overall result at a high level. The "i" is filled with beautiful, diamond-like sopranos, which, also like the bass, are well-controlled and can bring out the flavors of the drum cymbals in the recording. The whole is accompanied by a subtle and well-reproduced midrange, which fits wonderfully with the bass and treble, creating a neutral natural environment. The loudspeakers are very transparent to the timbre, and the naturalness of the presentation is nothing short of an ideal at this price. The sound coming from these boxes is at a high level, contradicting technical data and breaking the stereotype in audio. An interesting design feature is the closed housing, like in the good old ones Harbeth or legendary KEF-LS 3 / 5A Despite the fact that it does not have a bass-reflex port, it is characterized by an incredibly beautiful, strong and fast bass. In the first version, we have a plastic front of the column that resembles old constructions KEF Coda 7 and gives the impression that we are dealing with a budget construction. The second edition got rid of the plastic front, which was replaced with a veneered case veneer and the addition of an unusual grille that protects the speakers. The small 125mm woofer used in the SCM 7 is a really successful design, although it does not look like this. The speaker made of paper covered with a layer of impregnation looks like it was made of a budget material resembling tar covered roofing felt, even the feeling to the touch resembles because the membrane is quite sticky. Appearances in audio can surprise you more than once, and this is the case with the small SCM 7 monitors from ATC  (Acoustic Transducer Company). The tweeter is a 25mm soft textile dome with a truly miniature design. The crossover has been bolted to the rear terminal, its elements are 2nd order filters and the valued Bennic capacitors, and two air coils wound with thick wire, placed on both sides of the PCB. Attention is drawn to quite thin cables connecting the crossover with the loudspeakers, once again we have proof that appearances can be deceiving.
