HEGEL - H95
integrated amplifier

The Norwegian company founded in 1988 by Bent Holter creates high-quality audio components, such as integrated amplifiers, power amplifiers, preamplifiers, CD players and modern DACs.
The H95 is a combination of an integrated amplifier with the ability to play digital media. Built-in high-quality DAC with network media playback function makes the amplifier a modern digital multimedia harvester. High-quality components used during production with original solutions of semiconductor technology, telecommunications and scientific research guarantee high-quality sound. HEGEL presents an excellent approach to the goals set by technology, it does not limit itself but meets what the modern customer expects. The results are highly appreciated by satisfied customers all over the world, and the brand quickly and effectively conquers foreign markets. -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ doesn't seem like a lot, we get a really strong, juicy sound that can surprise with dynamics and overall sound quality.

Construction
The rear of the amplifier looks quite modest, on the left side there is only one stereo line-output for the right and left channels that can be used to connect a subwoofer and two analog RCA in-puts. The middle part is occupied by good quality gold-plated speaker terminals, which unfortunately do not offer the bi-wire option. The right side is occupied by a digital section offering one coaxial, three optical and one USB A / B connection to connect the amplifier's DAC to a computer. The Network media input RJ45 type is located on the right side between the USB port and the main input of the IEC type C14 power plug. The front of the amplifier is made of good quality plastic, on which, between the readable monochrome digital display, there are two symmetrically placed control potentiometers with a 6.3mm jack headphone output. The middle of the device looks impressive, two separate toroidal transformers (small for powering the digital circuit and large for the audio amplification circuit) equipped with SoundEngine technology, which removes the signal distortions between the waveforms to the amplifier stage using a specially prepared for this purpose processor. The H95 uses 4 LA Audio Grade filtering capacitors, each with a capacity of 10,000 μF / 63V, designed by Hegel. The power amplifier module uses Toshiba 2SA2121 / 2SC5949 bipolar transistors, the same as in the flagship H590.
Sound
Listening to Hegel, we can hear how easily the music breaks away from the loudspeakers, feels the freshness and a wide range of colors combined with good dynamics, which richly complements the natural character that Hegel wants to convey to us. The sound from the digital and network source is well delineated and cleaned of tarnish and artifacts causing loss of coherence and credibility of the message. We get a well-filtered, clear insight into the whole recording without losing or distorting anything along the way. The bass is agile, bouncy and delivers a quick response even to demanding loudspeakers. The scale of the sound in relation to the 60 W power into 8 Ohm load is impressive. The purity of the presentation surrounded by clear, uncolored and naturally distinguished details gives the music life and the will to listen louder. The instruments are separated from each other in a natural way without crossing the red line creating an unnatural digital atmosphere. High tones are crisp, bright, and at the same time very clear and shiny. The whole thing is extremely coherent without background noise, where everything that surrounds us in the music is accurate enough to notice the smallest nuances. Human voices have a convincing timbre, you can hear the emotions that the artist wants to convey in the piece. More emphasized notes have a strong emotional message, so that when listening to music, we have the impression that we are participating in it. Hegel managed to combine fire with water, and although the H95 itself is not a tall model in the offer of the Norwegian producer, it can pump a lot of blood that enlivens the music. In my own opinion, it is a combination of the SUGDEN sound class with the purity and refinement known from the stables of the Norwegian Primare Prisma.
