Marantz - CD 7300

Marantz is known for great CD players, I would even dare to say that one of the pioneers in this category. Marantz CDs have been present for over a dozen years at fairs and all kinds of presentations, not to mention in shop windows of audio stores. In terms of sound, the Marantz fits perfectly with a large number of audio devices, and its specific appearance does not allow to be confused with devices from other manufacturers. What distinguishes the Japanese manufacturer is modern design and, most importantly, sound. Marantz has always delivered a fresh, engaging message with a high amount of detail, and its philosophy has not changed to this day.

Marantz CD-7300

The CD 7300 is a mid-range player, equipped with a good converter that allows you to play discs Super-Audio CD. The front of the device is made of aluminum, on which there is a large, legible display that provides, in addition to the song number, more detailed solutions, such as CD-TEXT. On the left side there is the main switch of the device along with a sliding disc tray with an Open / Close button. The right side is responsible for playback functions. In addition to a few buttons that allow you to control most of the functions without the need for a remote control, there are two potentiometers, one EASY JOB, used to change the song, and the second, smaller LEVEL responsible for the amplification of the headphone jack next to it. On the back of the device, apart from the standard RCA outputs, there are two digital outputs (one coaxial and one optical), and the Remote Control input / output for controlling the device from other Marantz remotes connected to a compatible device. The CD 7300 can easily read most of the discs that we put in it. The popular compressed MP3 format is not a problem for a player that is great at reading CD-R / CD-RW discs. The icing on the cake in the above-mentioned player is the support for high definition SACD discs, which provides a noticeable quality leap.

Sound

The CD 7300 delivers a clean sound with a greasy tone throughout the frequency range. Although the bass is strong, it does not provide the appropriate concert strength. The low frequencies deliver a large scale, with a relaxed mid-bass response that fails to guide the kick and snare drum rhythm with the proper kick. The stereo image spreads very widely, making the sound stage appear wider. The vocals sound great, and although they have a nasal tinge at times, they are what Marantz presents best. High frequencies tend to sharpen, which makes the cymbals too metallic with overall overexposure. Overall, Marantz provides a quiet sound stage where you can listen to music for hours without focusing too much on the message. The situation is significantly changed by placing the SACD disc in the player, which makes the CD 7300 come alive. The sound from discs with better resolution changes beyond recognition, the whole thing takes on colors, gets the body and energy that it previously lacked. The music detaches from the speakers faster and more confidently, has a better tempo with a faster and better controlled bassline. The change has very positively noticeable differences in the emotional message. The whole is devoid of the greasiness we felt with ordinary CDs, which did not involve the listener to focus on the music. Super-Audio CD significantly increases the dynamics and spontaneity of the bass, which not only holds the rhythm confidently, but also adds concert power. The strongest good feature of CDs, which is undeniably the vocal, gains even more character, scale and naturalness. The high tones combine well the frequency ranges, adding brilliant nuances of wind and brass instruments.

Conclusion

The Marantz CD 7300 is a fairly successful design, presenting a calm, balanced sound that gains energy and life with SACDs.
