Marantz - NA 6006
Network Player
In 1953, Saul Bernard Marantz opens an audio-video equipment company focused on unique technological innovations. Over the years, the company has been developing its portfolio, maintaining the unchanged image among audio enthusiasts, associated with high-class products.
The NA-6006 player is an average among several Marantz network players available at the moment. The project is based on innovative technological solutions taken from the ND-8006 digital player and the acclaimed Super-Audio CD, SA-10. The front of the device is made of rounded plastic sides imitating aluminum, combined with an aluminum center with an easy-to-read display with most of the function buttons. Right next to it there is a USB-A port intended for external storage from which you can play music . The Marantz NA-6006 is controlled by the CPLDs Altera MAX V processor manufactured by the semiconductor giant INTEL. The entire audio section is based on discrete circuits with the JRC NJU-72343 electronic volume control with a 2-input selector for 4 out of 8 channels. NA-6006 is equipped with HDAM and HDAM SA2 modules, and the high-class ELNA ROA brand electrolytic capacitors from the Cerafines and Silmic series improve the charging and discharging speeds, thus reducing distortions and electrical noise. The heart of the device is a digital-to-analog converter DAC based on a 32-bit premium chip by Asahi Kasei - AKM AK4458VN with a signal-to-noise ratio of 115 dB and a maximum resolution of 768 kHz. Although the above-mentioned AK4458VN chip is able to handle a very high resolution of 768 kHz at 32 bits, the manufacturer, by eliminating the USB type B connector and using a budget DSP processor, limited the DAC to 24 Bit and 192 kHz. On the back of the device there is an optical digital input and output, fixed / variable analog output, and an RJ-45 Ethernet network port for connecting the device to the home network. The whole is enriched by 2 connectors for screw-in antennas for wireless WI-FI networks in accordance with IEEE 802.11 a / b / g / n. Marantz NA-6006 offers a significant amount of music streaming functions, its specification complies with the Apple AirPlay 2 standard, dual-band Bluetooth 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz module, UPnP / DLNA and streaming of popular internet services such as Spotify Connect, Pandora, SiriusXM, TIDAL, Deezer, Amazon Music along with internet radio stations. The front USB port is compatible with DSD (2.8 / 5.6 MHz), WAV, MP3, AAC, WMA, LPCM, FLAC and ALAC files controlled from the HEOS app.

Sound
Moving on from the HI-END DAC RME Adi 2 DAC Fs in my system, I thought that I would encounter a number of sounds unacceptable to my ears, which will be provided by Marantz. After plugging in the NA-6006 in place of the above-mentioned RME DAC, I heard a very similar sound signature. What the Marantz streaming player presented was practically in no way inferior to the professional RME converter, which is almost twice as expensive. The sound had the right dynamics, clarity, good timing with a clear treble, not overly exaggerating. The bass was fast, strong and it accompanied the whole musical spectacle that Marantz served. The music easily detached from the very demanding KEF loudspeakers LS-50. The vocals were properly filled and provided a lot of emotional color to the artist's vocal cords. The instruments were wonderfully positioned on the stage, creating a natural presentation with well-placed stereo reproducing the effects of surround sound at times. The detail was at a high level and did not capture anything in the sound that could lose the repertoire. Overall, the Marantz delivered a very believable engaging presentation, with the volume knob itself asking for more power to enter an even more concert-like atmosphere.
Conclusion
What was offered by the NA-6006 surprised me very positively, the Marantz harmonized very well with the more expensive electronics, and it was in no way inferior to the almost 2 times more expensive RME HI-END converter offering a much higher resolution. The NA-6006 is at least one of the cheapest streaming players in Marantz's lineup with a well-chosen company, it offers great clear sound of high quality, leaving no dissatisfaction in its price range.
