Audio Monitor - BX 2

Let's start with the well-known British manufacturer Monitor Audio, founded in 1972 by Mo Iqbal. The BX 2 series is an upgraded version of the Bronze BX 1 series.

Monitor Audio - BX 2

We start ...
The first thing that catches your eye is the appearance
A neat structure in a beautifully packed box, with a characteristic white mid-woofer, which is oddly bolted from the back, and a gold tweeter secured with a metal mesh. Attention is also drawn to the lack of elements for the grille on the front side of the speakers, the manufacturer used magnets hidden inside the front panel of the housing. There are no mounting screws on the front panel of the BX 2. The manufacturer has used an interesting solution for mounting the speakers through one long screw that holds the speaker from the back, additionally compressing and stiffening the casing, thus eliminating vibrations and resonances. Replacing the standard elements of the grille assembly and the screws securing the speakers translates into an aesthetic appearance.

The loudspeakers have two pairs (terminals) for connecting speaker cables, the so-called BI-WIRE and BI-AMP connected by sheet metal jumpers. They can work as standard loudspeakers, and by removing tin nickel jumpers in a mode that separates two speakers from each other (separately mid-woofer and tweeter separately, i.e. the Bi-Wire mentioned above), this solution gives wider possibilities of tuning the loudspeakers through speaker cables, which allows to obtain two independent signals from the amplifier and is assumed to provide greater dynamics through a stronger signal. The BX 2 has a front bass-reflex air outlet called by the manufacturer as HiVe-II, which makes them easier to set up in terms of the room. Additionally, the set includes two spongy plugs for the bass reflex port, with the help of which we can eliminate the humming effect of the bass and reduce its abundance. The BX 2 is by definition an improved design of the award-winning Bronze BX1 series with quite good opinions, with a few innovations from the higher Silver series. The changes mainly concern mid-woofers and tweeters. The BX 2 mid-woofer uses a 16.5 cm C-CAM (Ceramic Coated Aluminum Magnesium) driver, which is designed to combine the stiffness and strength of the diaphragm material with its light weight. The tweeter is a 25mm redesigned gold-plated C-CAM tweeter, for which the housing has been changed, which is said to reduce resonances. The bass-reflex tunnel projecting at the front of the loudspeaker has been enriched with grooves borrowed from the higher Silver series, whose task is to disperse sound waves in the best possible way. The crossover in the BX 2 was also redesigned in relation to the Bronze BX 1 series. Good components and capacitors of own design were used here, as evidenced by their own logo. After all, it is probably a marketing procedure, and the mentioned capacitors are produced by the most probably valued BENNIC especially for Monitor Audio. The loudspeakers have a high efficiency at the level of 90 dB (decibels), and the 8 Ohm impedance gives an easy way to drive the loudspeakers by virtually any amplifier.

Sound

The BX-twos sound coherent and velvety, you don't hear much difference from the ones, apart from the fact that the sound is more polite and full, you can hear more energy in them, which they convey quite well. The bass does not come to the fore, although it makes itself felt quite well in places, especially when playing louder, where approaching at a distance of about 2 meters from the loudspeakers, you can feel its energy on the body and release from the ports bass-reflex air. The first listening impressions are coherence, as if nothing would come to the fore and let you know more about yourself, despite all that, the beautiful sterophony is preserved, and the sound is strong and clear, as if it would be a little thinner in the bass and higher tones in which less you hear chirps. The BX 2 sounds engaging and, most importantly, not tiring, although their timbre is rather bright, you cannot hear any harshness in them. Although the loudspeakers seem to be somewhat diminished and unsatisfied, as if they still lack something, they convey a nice, noble, well-balanced timbre. The bass is quite fast and well controlled, the treble is velvety, and the midrange harmonizes quite well with the rest, giving you something you might like. Such a sound certainly does not tire and does not sting the ears. Despite some limitation in the lower bass frequencies, which is rather obvious with small monitors, the efficiency of 90 dB gives a strong sound full of energy in the 42-30 kHz (kilohertz) range. The loudspeakers are a balanced alternative in their price range, and definitely worth listening to. can sensitively influence their sound. When starting the listening session, it is worth getting acquainted with the BI-WIRE two-cable option, which can definitely change the color of the sound. In my opinion, the BX2 requires carefully selected cabling that will result in the immersive, balanced sound that they can bring out.
