Primare - A10
Integrated amplifier
The Scandinavian A10 was the first integrated amplifier from Primare. Its great design and the highest quality workmanship attracted the eyes of budget amplifiers. The product, although it did not raise the Primare market high, presented itself outstandingly in terms of performance. After a rather poor opinion, in a professional audio press, engineers from Primare found the cause of the biggest problem of the amplifier .
The improvements introduced in the next model A 20 with dual-mono toroidal transformers and an improved preamplifier resulted in the first sales successes. After some time, the A10 model, as not to spoil the image of a well-developing company with great potential, was withdrawn, and Primare began to be more and more successful on the market. The next models from the PRISMA line that were introduced presented a high level of workmanship (which is what Primare will become famous for) and a high-level sound, bringing Primare to the HI-END market.
Sound
And the 10 sounds clean and has a lot of potential, which chokes the preamplifier. The pre-amp of this integrated amplifier does not let you spread the wings of a well-designed power amplifier, which is the best element of the amplifier. Primare A10 sounds cool, it lacks the vigor that competition amplifiers bring. By confronting him directly with NAD, Rotel or Marantz, you can hear the thinning that the music does not convey such an emotional message. The overall sound is almost even, with no well-emphasized accents. The timbre has a cool color, and although the instruments sound clear, they cannot describe the emotional character known from the competition's devices. Primare, although it sounds dynamically, does not convey the full spectrum, as if the constructors were afraid when designing, not to overdo it in some frequency. The A10 can work as a power amplifier and preamplifier. Own, different path that Primare followed brought many interesting new solutions. In the A10 model I am describing, the main power switch is located on the bottom of a well-fitted casing and is invisible to our eyesight. An interesting solution was also brought by the switch to work as an amplifier or preamplifier, it is located on the rear panel and does not require the use of additional sheet metal jumpers, which in budget constructions are usually made of poor quality wire.Working in conjunction with a separate good preamplifier, the Primare A10 power amplifier with only 50W per channel into 8 ohms and 78W into 4 ohms can surprise you with speed, dynamics and overall sound quality in each band.
Conclusion
The use of Primare A10 as a power amplifier gives great sonic results, and the combination in a dual-mono configuration (i.e. two such amplifiers) with a good preamplifier will result in double the power per channel and fantastic sound.
