Sennheiser - CX300II Precision
Sennheiser CX300II Precision in-ear headphones.
The German company Sennheiser, headquartered in Wedemark near Hanover and founded in 1945 by the Sennheiser family, offers a rich range of products including headphones, microphones, and telecommunication accessories. The company made its debut in 1987 when Fritz Sennheiser received a Technical Oscar from the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the MKH 816 shotgun microphone. Sennheiser provides a diverse lineup of products to the global market, catering to professional, business, and consumer segments.
Key products from Sennheiser include headphones across various price points and applications, serving both mass-market and professional users. The CX300II Precision is aimed at the mass market with an affordable price, designed to appeal to a broad audience seeking an economical option that enhances their music listening experience. This is indeed the case, as these compact and unassuming headphones deliver loud, clear sound with good dynamics and bass. The wide frequency range of 19 to 21,000 Hz provides a comprehensive musical picture without cutting off the lower and upper frequencies. The drivers in the CX300II ensure high dynamics of up to 113 dB at 16 Ohms, making these headphones easy to drive with virtually any player, delivering a strong and dynamic sound.
The headphones are equipped with a fairly high-quality 1.2-meter asymmetrical cable ending in a gold-plated mini jack. Included with the headphones are three pairs of interchangeable ear tips in sizes S, M, and L, featuring a high noise isolation coefficient. Interestingly, changing these ear tips has a notable impact on the sound profile. The largest (large) silicone tips deliver the most bass without compromising the rest of the sound spectrum, the medium tips offer a natural sound, while the smallest (small) tips noticeably reduce bass, enhancing treble and clarity.
A confirmed observation is that the CX300II Precision's performance is significantly influenced by the choice of ear tips, which are tailored to the individual sound preferences of the user, as well as the playback device, which affects the sound profile just as much as the headphones themselves. Additionally, the headphones come with a sleekly finished carrying case, conveniently hidden inside the packaging.
LISTENING
In their price range, the Sennheiser CX300II Precision headphones have few competitors when it comes to dynamics and the quality of sound presentation. While they may not fully capture intricate details and subtle nuances, the sound is well-balanced and should be satisfactory for everyday listening by those who do not have a highly trained ear (they are a higher-quality option for the mass market). The CX300II Precision delivers a sound that is not harsh, with strong bass that, although occasionally loose and slightly sluggish, is not bothersome enough to detract from the listening experience. High frequencies are slightly emphasized, and while they do not reveal all the details, they sound fairly accurate given the price point—at this level, finding a product that offers much more is unlikely.
Vocals are clear but do not stand out excessively, and the rest of the frequency range blends well with the bass and treble, creating a solid and robust sound picture. The CX300II Precision is certainly not aimed at audiophiles seeking intricate detail and subtlety in sound. However, compared to its rivals in the budget segment, it performs commendably and will likely satisfy a broad audience.
