WireWorld - Ultraviolet 8
USB 2.0 Audio Cable
Founded by David Salz in 1992 in Florida, USA, WireWorld Cable Technology is a leading manufacturer of specialized cabling for home and professional use. WireWorld's offer includes a wide range of cables, such as: Digital HDMI, USB, Ethernet, Toslink, Balanced, Coaxial, Interconnect cables, instrument, microphone and speaker cables. WireWorld provides high quality conductors, own patented construction designs and cable materials.
Ultraviolet 8 is a modest-looking USB cable with a flat design reminiscent of computer Serial ATA tape for hard drives. The cable is available in several USB versions shown in the pictures below.
What distinguishes Ultraviolet 8 from other cables is its symmetrical construction with separated signal conductors from the power core. This design provides better suppression of unwanted interference, reducing potential distortion. The Ultraviolet 8 is based on the same design as the Starlight 8 USB. The changes introduced are the use of a thinner layer of silver plating of OFC conductors to reduce costs. This philosophy has worked very well and the Ultraviolet 8 far exceeds the USB speed specification, delivering surprising musicality at a decent price. The cable is insulated with COMPOSILEX 3 insulating material to minimize noise and loss to hear more detail and three-dimensional space. Isolation improves overall performance by providing greater sonic realism by reducing triboelectric noise caused by the effects of static charges and discharges. Composilex 3 is built with low-loss insulation materials including DuPont Teflon for better tonality, spaciousness and dynamics in the sound.
The WireWorld Ultraviolet 8 cable with a length of 0.6 m was used for the test, communicating the RME ADI 2 DAC FS digital-analog converter with the Startech ST-7200 USBM 2.0 USB HUB, which was connected to the PC via the HP-MONSTER - High Speed cable USB-700. The additional USB HUB I use, powered by its own external power supply with a voltage of 18V / 3.33A, perfectly separates the DAC from any interference from the computer, additionally increasing the power and stability of the USB power supply.
Sound
Ultraviolet 8 USB introduces greater speed in transferring data to devices via the USB port. This makes the sound more dynamic and detailed. The descent of an ordinary USB cable to the WireWorld Ultraviolet 8 introduces a significant improvement in the entire stereo image, where sounds become better differentiated, gaining greater dynamic contrast surrounded by a wide scale of three-dimensional space. The lowest bass frequencies gain extra power and clarity through a better and faster attack that becomes more detailed and firm. The midrange sounds cleaner, which makes the instruments and vocalists' voices even more tangible. The upper registers sound brilliant and get an extra sparkle with clearer and more subtle insight into detail.
